I Like Salt

While technically defined as sentence fragments, Araella is now putting together phrases which, while not always grammatically correct, are usually quite descriptive… Just the other day I discovered Araella sitting in a remote corner of the house with a large pile of white stuff between her legs. She had managed to procure the salt shaker and had dumped an entire pile of it on the floor and was dipping her fingers in it and licking them. Caught red-handed she made no pretense of being in the wrong, declaring definitively “I Yike Shalt!”

One favorite phrase repeated throughout the day begins with a demonstrative shrugging of the shoulders with her palms facing up and then asking “Cat-Kee where?” indicating our kitten Fanta (note the merger of the words cat and kitty) who is usually avoiding Araellas exuberant hugs.

“Daddy Bye-bye!” “Mommy Sleeping?” are other oft spoken phrases, while the one word “Barney” is a whole paragraph in itself; referring of course to the large purple dinasour that hosts a particularly mind-numbing children’s video series. “I am pretty” once popped out and astonished us all as did “I wan da big peice! “Dang it hot!” once mortified Tara (and secretly amused me).
“Yeah plees” is the standard affirmative phrase to most questions and “I want Juus” is the usual wake-up call we get indicating that she desires her sippy cup to be filled with juice pronto followed by a short “Tanku”.

One phrase is the envy of many parents as most nights she points to her crib and says “sleep plees”. Tucking her in one night I distinctly heard “I wuv my daddy” – which I’m sure her mother put her up to, but was no less adorable for it’s spontanety.
